2019-2020 ENGLISH-SPEAKING UNION NATIONAL SHAKESPEARE COMPETITION!!!

Brace up thy doublets and don thy ruffs. It’s time for the Annual Pearl Mayefsky Shakespeare Festival! Choose a monologue from the ESU Monologue Packet and perform it. 9th and 10th graders perform 1/14. 11th and 12th graders perform 1/15. The top three finishers win prizes! 2019-2020 ENGLISH-SPEAKING UNION NATIONAL SHAKESPEARE COMPETITION!!!  

WHO: Students in the 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grades

WHAT: Read, analyze, memorize, and perform a monologue from one of Shakespeare’s plays

WHEN: 9th and 10th graders will perform Tuesday, January 14th at 3:40 pm in the Mack Library; 11th and 12th graders will perform Wednesday, January 15th at 3:40 pm in the Mack Library.

DEADLINE: This form is due Friday, December 20th at 5 pm.

You MUST choose an approved monologue from this list: 

*The winner of the 9th and 10th grade competition will advance to the 11th and 12th grade competition on Wednesday, 1/15.

*The School Winner advances to the local English-Speaking Union Branch Competition, adding a sonnet to his or her presentation.

*The Branch Competition Winner will have the opportunity to compete on stage at Lincoln Center. The winner will also participate include acting workshops and cultural activities.

*The ESU National Competition Winner is awarded an all-expenses-paid trip to study acting in Shakespeare’s homeland, England.

In 2018, the 1st place winner was awarded a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art’s Young Actors Summer School in London, England. The runner-up received a scholarship to the American Shakespeare Center’s Theatre Camp in Staunton, Virginia. The 3rd place winner was awarded $500 by The Shakespeare Society in New York, NY.
