Brooklyn Tech Reigns in Boys Table Tennis

Brooklyn Tech, though seeded three, came to defend their title and succeeded. In an exciting final, Brooklyn Tech took out the number 1 seed, Bronx Science, 3-2 in a very close match January 31, 2019, at ER Murrow High School. For more info click headline.

Bronx Science jumped out to an early lead when Third Singles, Eric Wu, beat Jonathan Soskin in straight games, 11-7,11-7,11-5. The next three matches belonged to Brooklyn Tech as Second Singles Gabriel Riskevich beat Bronx Science Alexander Chasteen 13-11,7-11,14-12,11-5. Brooklyn Tech also swept the doubles as Kuiyu Lin and James Yee teamed up to hand Tim Zhao and Bojiang Wu a 4 game loss. They were able to win the last three games, 11-5,11-7,11-8, after dropping the first game 12-14 and Jonathan Collard De Beau and Gavin Zheng out played Shiras Khera and Jacob Axl in a tight match 10-12,12-10,11-9,11-9. In the final match, First Singles George He, from Bronx Science, battled to a 5 game win over William Song, 11-5,7-11,12-10,9-11,11-9, bringing the final score to 3-2.

En route to the finals, Brooklyn Tech knocked off Queens High School Complex, 5-0,  and FDR in the semi finals 3-2, while Bronx Science toppled Millennium, 5-0 then Murrow 5-0 in the semi finals.   FDR squeaked past a tough ER Murrow squad, 3-2 to garner the 3rd place. In league play the two teams had split each winning a 3-2 contest.
