IN MEMORY OF PAUL HOFTYZER

With great sadness, we wish to inform you that Paul Hoftyzer, Brooklyn Technical High School’s Assistant Principal of Health and Safety, passed suddenly Monday evening. For more information click headline.

Dear Parents/Guardians and Students,

With great sadness, I write to inform you that Paul Hoftyzer, Brooklyn Technical High School’s Assistant Principal of Health and Safety, passed suddenly Monday evening. The outpouring of support en masse is a testament to the special impact and indelible mark our beloved “Hoffy” had on so many students and staff over the years.

Mr. Hoftyzer served the Tech community officially for over twenty-two years as a chemistry teacher, programming chair, coach, and assistant principal. Paul’s contributions to the Tech community far exceed that of the titles he has accumulated; he dedicated his heart and soul to this school and in turn he is a big part of the school's heart and soul.

Although classroom instruction will continue, I anticipate that the next few days will be particularly difficult for everyone. There is a Crisis Response Team to provide support for students and staff. We have professionals trained to help with the needs of students, parents, and school personnel at difficult times such as this. The team will be in the library all day tending to the needs of our students. We also have our school guidance team available for any student who may need or want help or any type of assistance surrounding this loss in the next few weeks or thereafter.

Here are some resources to help support our children in times of crisis

Feel free to reach out to Assistant Principal of Guidance, Ms. Cuesta at (718) 804 - 6464 or directly to me at (718) 804 – 6502.

We are saddened by this loss to our community and are here to assist our families and our Tech family in every way we can.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

Sincerely,

David Newman

Acting Principal
