The 2018-19 BTHS Boys & Girls indoor track teams wrapped up a busy January schedule at the Ocean Breeze Invitational track meet in Staten Island this past Saturday (Boys) and Sunday (Girls). The meet featured over 250 high schools from 9 different states giving Coach Taylor and Clarke's teams an opportunity to show their mettle against the best runners in this region & beyond. Boys highlights:
1.           The 4x800m varsity relay team took 5th place led by Seniors Sufiyan Sarguroh, Evan Sherman, Parker Straight & Astor Meredith-Goujon with a season's best time of 8:08.30 (improving upon the Engineers season's best PSAL time of 8:15.53)
2.        Earlier in the day, Straight ('19) shattered his Personal Record in the varsity 800m with a blistering 1:57.71 time, good for 10th place overall.  Meredith-Goujon ('19) also broke the 2-minute barrier setting a Personal Record of 1:58.39
3.        Marcus Scott ('21) and Otto Horiuchi ('20) set Personal Records in the 400m crossing the finish line at 56.47 and 57.59 respectively.  Patrick Dicus ('21) and Andrew Smith ('21) also broke the 1-minute barrier in the event
4.        Merlin Beaufils ('19) set a Personal Record in the Pole Vault scaling 10'-6"
5.        The Freshman trio of Erik Nebel [5:29.92], Dylan Zhao [5:30.19] & Andres Orbegozo [5:30.34] finished 2nd, 3rd & 4th in Heat #1 of the Freshman 1 mile
6.         In the varsity 1 mile, Dylan Canales ('21) set a Personal Record of 4:33.57; Canales also set a Personal Record in the 800m earlier in the meet (2:02.48).

Girls highlights:
7.         Lucinda Doogan ('20) took fifth place in the varsity 2 mile run with a Personal Record of 11:19.27
8.         In the varsity 1 mile run, Christy Huynh ('20) set a Personal Record of  5:25.05 while Freshman Farah Osman set her own Personal Record finishing 5:46.07
9.         9th graders Rachel Lacey  and Kimberly Chin set Personal Records in the 200m running 31.79 and 34.47 respectively
10.       In the 800m Isabell Fitch ('20) ran a 2:46.27 setting a Personal Record while in the 400m Clara Beliavsky ('22) ran a 1:10.31.

The Engineers get Super Bowl weekend off but return to the Ft. Washington Armory the following Sunday (2/10/19) for the PSAL Brooklyn Borough Championships where the Boys will defend their 2017-18 Championship while the Girls will seek to avenge their 2nd place finish to Medgar Evers College Prep HS.
