Shakespeare Contest Info

Attention All Students!!! It’s time to get signed up for the 2018-19 ENGLISH-SPEAKING UNION NATIONAL SHAKESPEARE COMPETITION!!! 9th and 10th graders will perform Tuesday, January 15th at 3:40 pm in the Mack Library; 11th and 12th graders will perform Wednesday, January 16th at 3:40 pm in the Mack Library. WHO: Students in the 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grades

WHAT: Read, analyze, memorize and perform a monologue from one of Shakespeare’s plays

WHEN: 9th and 10th graders will perform Tuesday, January 15th at 3:40 pm in the Mack Library; 11th and 12th graders will perform Wednesday, January 16th at 3:40 pm in the Mack Library

DEADLINE: This form is due Friday, December 21st at 5 pm.

*The School Winner advances to the local English-Speaking Union Branch Competition, adding a sonnet to his or her presentation.

*The Branch Competition Winner will have the opportunity to compete on stage at Lincoln Center. The winner will also participate include acting workshops and cultural activities.

*The ESU National Competition Winner is awarded an all-expenses-paid trip to study acting in Shakespeare’s homeland, England.

In 2014, the 1st place winner was awarded a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art’s Young Actors Summer School in London, England. The runner-up received a scholarship to the American Shakespeare Center’s Theatre Camp in Staunton, Virginia. The 3rd place winner was awarded $500 by The Shakespeare Society in New York, NY.
